Artist’s Studio

This concrete and timber studio forms a backdrop to a newly planted garden in Sydney’s Vaucluse. The multi-functional space was designed primarily as an artist’s studio, but also serves as an outdoor entertainment area and pool house.

Located at the rear of the property the relationship between the studio, pool and landscaping maximises the sense of space and provides coherence to the garden edge.

Large-scale recessed timber-framed sliding doors open the studio to the pool. Inbuilt seating areas are complemented by a playful timber bench seat hanging from the concrete roof in front of a glazed corner window which looks out into a planted courtyard.

The utility space – discretely tucked behind a timber batten screen – houses a concealed canvas store, wash-up area, WC and storage for a range of art materials.
