Waverley House

This substantial renovation in Sydney was designed in response to both its immediate setting and the broader Eastern Suburbs context.  The restrained concrete, timber and sandstone wing complements the Victorian terrace house which it extends.  At the raised ground floor level a low quality extension was removed and the spaces were reorganised to create vibrant and functional living areas for an active family.

Above the first floor was reorganised and wrapped in a fine timber battened screen which provides privacy and sun protection along with filtered views east and west.  The timber and sandstone continue throughout the new parts of the house adding texture and warmth to the internal spaces.

The reduced scale of the house now sits comfortably with its neighbours and substantial landscaping further softens its appearance as well as providing lush green outlooks from within and from the surrounding streets.
